Job Description
Philips is seeking an experienced Android developer to join its Bangalore engineering team as Software Technologist I – Android. In this role, you will work on native Android applications, incorporate modern technologies, optimize performance, and contribute to scalable, secure, and user-friendly healthcare technology solutions. The position requires strong expertise in Android Java, Kotlin exposure, Jetpack Compose, REST services, testing frameworks, and CI tools.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop, enhance, and maintain native Android applications using Java and Kotlin.
• Work with Android stack components including layouts, widgets, intents, content providers, storage, security, cryptography, location services, networking, and media interfaces.
• Use Jetpack Compose, KMM, and AI-based developer tools such as GitHub Copilot and Windsurf.
• Integrate REST, SOAP, XML, and JSON-based web services.
• Apply strong Object-Oriented Design principles and CS fundamentals.
• Utilize tools like TFS, Jira, Bugzilla, and CI systems for version control, bug tracking, and productivity.
• Handle Android design patterns, memory management, concurrency, file I/O, and performance optimization.
• Work with APIs, external SDKs, analytics tools, and visualization libraries.
• Optimize applications for battery performance, storage, and network efficiency.
• Use Bluetooth / BLE protocols where required.
• Work with SQL databases and backend technologies.
• Implement Unit Testing and follow TDD practices using JUnit, Mockito, Espresso, or similar frameworks.
• Debug issues, fix bugs, and ensure the app stays updated with new Android libraries and platform changes.
• Use analytics debugging tools such as Charles Proxy when needed.
Requirements
• 6–8 years experience in native Android Java development.
• At least 6 months hands-on experience in Kotlin.
• Strong command of Android SDK, APIs, and mobile architecture.
• Hands-on experience with Jetpack Compose and modern Android frameworks.
• Knowledge of Bluetooth, BLE, networking, storage, and security concepts.
• Solid understanding of Android internals, performance tuning, and multithreading.
• Experience with SQL databases, testing frameworks, CI/CD workflows, and developer productivity tools.
• Strong analytical, debugging, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to work in a hybrid model (minimum 3 days onsite).
